Cashless Economy: Chhattisgarh, Gujarat Govts removes VAT on Card Swipe Machines

In a significant step to promote cashless transactions in Chhattisgarh and Gujarat, the state governments has decided to exempt purchase of card swipe/Point of Sale(PoS) machines from Value Added Tax (VAT).

In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chhatisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh decided to fully exempt Point of Sale (PoS) machines from VAT to encourage cashless transaction in the state following demonetisation,”.

The  Gujarat State Government on Tuesday also announced to waive VAT and cess on point of sale(POS) machine buyers.

At present, VAT charged on purchase of such machine in Chhattisgarh is 14.5 per cent and Gujarat is  12.5% VAT & 2.5% cess which has been brought down to “zero”.
