CBIC authorizes Customs Officers to adjudge Confiscation / Penalty [Read Notification]

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs ( CBIC ) have notified the officers who are empowered to adjudge confiscation or penalty under the Customs Act.

Under section 122 of the Customs Act, 1962, provides for adjudication of confiscation or penalty under Chapter XIV of the Act.

As per the Notification issued on 8th June, Assistant Commissioner of Customs or Deputy Commissioner of Customs s empowered to confiscate goods worth above rupees one lakh but not exceeding rupees ten lakhs.

If the value of goods is not exceeding one lakh rupees, a Gazetted Officer of Customs lower in rank than an Assistant Commissioner of Customs or Deputy Commissioner of Customs has power to confiscate the same.
