Goa Assembly unanimously passes State GST Bill at Special Sitting

The Goa State Assembly today unanimously passed State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Bill 2017 at special sitting.

The Parliament had on April 6 passed four legislations to pave the way for nationwide roll-out of GST from July 1.

“Goa will not face any major loss after the implementation of the GST. Even if we suffer any losses, the Union government will compensate for it,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who also holds Finance portfolio told the House, after tabling the bill.

“With the implementation of the GST, the entertainment tax, value-added tax and additional Customs duty would be a thing of the past,” he also said.

Haryana becomes the ninth state to pass the bill.

Eight States have passed the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Bill in their respective State Assembly in less than a month’s time.

The Legislative Assembly of Telangana State passed the State GST Bill on 9th April, 2017, that of Bihar State passed it on 24th April, 2017, Rajasthan Assembly on 26th April, 2017, that of Jharkhand on 27th April, 2017, Chhattisgarh Assembly on 28th April, 2017, that of Uttarakhand on 2nd May, 2017, Madhya Pradesh Assembly on 3rd May, 2017 while the Assembly of State of Haryana passed the State GST Bill on 4th May, 2017.
