The GSTN has restored archived GST return data from July and August 2017 back onto the Common Portal, as per a recent advisory. This decision comes after multiple requests from traders who faced challenges due to the archival of older data in line with the data archival policy.
Initially, return data for these months was archived in August and September 2024, respectively. Users are encouraged to download and save the data for future reference, as the archival process will be reimplemented after further notice.

This move aims to provide temporary relief to businesses struggling with access to older records, ensuring they can retrieve the necessary data for their operations.
GSTN has reiterated that the policy to archive data will continue in the future, with prior communication to taxpayers, giving them enough time to prepare and download the required information.
Businesses are advised to take advantage of this opportunity and store relevant data before it is archived again. This measure emphasises the need for regular backups, considering the limited retention period on the GST portal.
