The Goods and Services Tax ( GST ) department has detected an evasion of rupees 20 crores in Bangalore.

This is for the second time in a week, sleuths have detected a fraud in payment of Goods and Services Tax by a manufacturer.

Based on specific intelligence, personnel from the Central Tax Department raided a private company that manufactures lead acid batteries in Bommasandra and Jigani.

As per reports, while the company had collected GST amounting to rupees 20.70 crore from its customers between February and May 2018, they had not remitted the amount to the government, said G. Narayanaswamy, Commissioner of Central Tax (Bengaluru South) in a release.

Reports said that the manufacturer has admitted to pay Rs.16 crore.

Earlier this month, officials started the process of recovery of rs 15 crore from an automobile manufacturing company in Bommasandra for having collected GST between August 2017 and May 2018, but not remitting the amount to the Centre.

Last day, the officers of CGST Delhi North Commissionerate have arrested one Director of a Company for evasion of Service Tax. The Company had collected more than Rs. 3 Crores as Service Tax from its clients but had not deposited the same with the Government Exchequer.
