The taxman will undertake a midnight vigil on August 5th as the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex policy-making body, has directed the Income Tax department to keep its country wide offices open in order to receive returns from the tax payers.
The Board had extended the ‘due-date’ for filing of return of income in cases of certain categories of tax payers has been extended till 5th August ,2017 for Assessment Year 2017-18, in view of the difficulties faced by taxpayers.
“In order to facilitate manual filing of returns(of aforesaid categories) on 5th August, 2017, being a Saturday, the Central Board of Direct Taxes has directed that necessary arrangements be made for receiving Income Tax Returns up to midnight in all Income Tax Offices throughout the country.”
