Govt. cancels Reduction in Late Fee for Returns Filed by OIDAR Service Providers [Read Notification]

The Central Government, today cancelled the reduction in late fee for delay in filing GSTR-5A by the Online Information and Database Access or Retrieval ( OIDAR ) services provider.

The Goods and Services Tax Council, on 18th January recommended the Government to reduce the late fee. As decided by the Council, The late fee payable by any registered person for failure to furnish FORM GSTR-1 (supply details), FORM GSTR-5 (Non-resident taxable person) or FORM GSTR-5A (OIDAR) has been reduced to fifty rupees per day and shall be twenty rupees per day for NIL filers.

In case of GSTR5A, the earlier Notification said that where the total amount of integrated tax payable in the said return is nil, the amount of late fee payable by such registered person for failure to furnish the said return by the due date under section 47 of the said Act shall stand waived to the extent which is in excess of an amount of ten rupees for every day during which such failure continues.

GSTR-5A is a Return to be furnished by Online Information and Database Access or Retrieval (OIDAR) services provider to un-registered person or customers, on the GST Portal for the services provided from a place outside India to a person in India, other than a registered person.
