The Ministry of Finance today notified the postponement of E-Way Bill under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. However, the next rollout date has not been prescribed in the notification.

In a bid to bring more accountability and transparency in the transactions and thereby to curb tax evasion, the most-awaited E-way Bill provision under the Goods and Services Tax regime is to be rolled out from today.

Under the E-way Bill provisions, both the inter-State and intra-State movement of goods above Rs 50,000 is required to be pre-registered online.

Though the EWB system had launched last day, the Central Government, on the very first day has decided to postpone the implementation of E-Way Bill system due to technical glitches in the common portal.

A notification issued today rescinded the earlier notification wherein the Government mandated E-Way Bill for every inter-State movement of goods.

The Notification said that “the Central Government, hereby rescinds, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such rescission, the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No. 74/2017 – Central Tax dated the 29th December, 2017, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (i), vide number G.S.R 1601 (E), dated the 29th December, 2017.”
