GST: CBIC to observe Special Refund Fortnight from Tomorrow

CBIC - GST

In a major relief to taxpayers, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is going to organize a Special Refund Fortnight from 31st May 2018 to 14th June 2018 in which Center and State GST officers will strive to clear all GST refund applications received on or before 30.04.2018.

The “Special Refund Fortnight” is for all GST refunds, including refund of IGST paid on export of goods and all refund claims submitted in FORM GST RFD-01A on or before 30.04.2018.

“All claimants may please note the refund application in FORM GST RFD-01A will not be processed unless a copy of the application is submitted to the jurisdictional tax office along with supporting documents. Mere online submission is not enough,” the official twitter handle of CBIC tweeted last day.

“All claimants are encouraged to approach their jurisdictional tax offices during the “Special Refund Fortnight” to clear any pending GST refund claims which were submitted on or before 30.04.2018,” it said.

Disbursal of refund has been a major issue faced by the GST department since the initial days of GST rollout. The same is not yet solved properly due to several glitches.

Last week, in a communication to the higher officials of the department, the CBIC Chief Vanaja N Sarna urged to monitor the refund processing activities. “IGST / ITC Refunds remain a concern and a priority. At the cost of repetition, I once again request all Chief Commissioners to monitor the pending refund claims and ensure timely disbursals. Necessary assistance must be offered to exporters to resolve any issues being faced in sanction of their claims.”

In March, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) had observed GST refund fortnight across all its field formations from 15th – 2B`h March, 2018 to deal exclusively with the pending GST refund claims (IGST & ITC). The period was then, extended.
