Reportedly, the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) has arrested the Director of a Mumbai-based Company who failed to pay GST within the prescribed time.
An official release said that CGST, Navi Mumbai Commissionerate arrested the director of M/s OTS E Solution Private Limited, Rajpal Singh, yesterday.
He allegedly defaulted on payment of service tax of Rs 3.06 crore and GST of Rs 5.78 crore, CGST release said.
As per the reports in Business Standard, CGST Navi Mumbai Commissioner, Kiran Verma, confirmed the arrest, saying that further probe was underway.
Goods and Services Tax (GST) was rolled out in India on 1st July 2017. During the transition time, the Government had taken a lenient attitude towards the taxpayers. However, it seems that the honey moon period is over and the Government is taking all the possible measures to curb tax evasion.
