The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) have sanctioned IGST refund of around 650 crores in this financial year so far, said CBIC Chief Vanaja N Sarna.

In a letter addressing the officials of the CBIC, the chairman said that “In this financial year (2018-19), IGST refunds of approximately Rs 650 Crore have been sanctioned. This amount is over and above Rs. 9,604 Crore that was sanctioned up to 3lst March 2018. However, we still have quite a few claims of IGST refund pending with Customs primarily due to invoice mismatch and EGM errors. There are also certain refund claims that are pending due to non-receipt of data from GSTN.”

“Efforts are on to resolve the errors committed by exporters and ensure transmission of data from GSTN to Customs. I would request all Chief Commissioners to reach out to exporters with regard to pending refund claims with the same spirit displayed during the special drive fortnight and focus on liquidating them at the earliest,” she added.

The CBIC Chief further confirmed that the e-way bill system rolled out on 1st April 2018 is working smoothly without any glitches.

“The system is working smoothly and in the past twelve days, more than ninety-one lakh e-way bills have been generated. As per the decision of the GST Council, the first lot of States that would be implementing the e-way bill system for intra-State movement of goods from l5th of April 2018 are Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana & Uttar Pradesh. In this regard, I would urge the Chief Commissioners of the concerned zones to coordinate with the State Tax Authorities so that the same may roll out smoothly. I am sure that you would be continuing with the endeavour to sensitise and familiarise the taxpayers with this new system,” she said.
