Indian Customs goes Digital: Bids Adieu to Mate Receipts

Indian Customs - Taxscan

In a bid to go digital, the Indian Customs department to avoid manually issued mate receipts has been eliminated after the automation of customs procedures.

Mate receipt is a receipt issued by the Commanding Officer of the ship when the cargo is loaded on the ship. It is a prima facie evidence that goods are loaded in the vessel.

The receipt has been issued manually till now and the same is replaced with the automation of customs procedures.

“Manual issuance of mate receipts for containerized cargo is now a thing of history…!” the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs ( CBIC ) said in an advisory.
