UP, Uttarakhand and Haryana State Governments made ‘Dangal’ Tax free

The latest Aamir Khan starrer movie ‘Dangal’ declared as Tax free in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana.

The film traces the journey of wrestling champion sisters Geeta and Babita Phogat trained by their father Mahavir Singh Phogat hailing from Balali, a small town in Haryana.

“The exemption has been given keeping in view the promotion of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ programme and promotion of wrestling in the movie,”  said Chief Minister Manoharlal Khattar.

Dangal, released last Friday, portrays how national wrestling champion Mahavir Singh Phogat trained his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat, to become international champions against all odds. Mr Phogat, a Dronacharya awardee, had to struggle against social taboos, to train his daughters Geeta and Babita as wrestlers. Geeta fulfilled her father’s dream in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Babita won a silver at the same event and later a Gold at Glasgow. Both went on to represent India at the Olympics.
