The Central Government is considering an extension of the export benefits under the Remission of Duties or Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP) Scheme for the Iron and Steel, Chemicals, and Pharmaceutical Sectors beyond the current deadline of September 30.
The Government of India implemented this scheme by modifying the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-20 through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Notification No. 19/2015-20 dated August 17, 2021.
The primary goal of introducing this scheme is to offset the taxes and duties incurred on exported goods that are typically not eligible for any form of credit, reimbursement, or refund, and these taxes and duties continue to be a part of the exported goods.
On 7th December 2022, the Central Government further expanded the scope of RoDTEP Scheme by including the exports made from the Chemical sector, Pharmaceuticals sector and exports of articles of iron & steel under chapters 28, 29, 30 and 73 of ITC(HS) schedule of items.
The same was the result of the persistent request from the industry, and its acceptance will significantly enhance our exports, global market competitiveness, employment generation, and overall economic contribution. The list of export items eligible under Appendix 4R has expanded, growing from the current 8,731 export items (8-digit tariff lines) to 10,342 export items (8-digit tariff lines).
This scheme serves as a substitute for the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS), which concluded last year. Currently, more than 10,342 export items are eligible to receive benefits under RoDTEP.
