The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs ( CBIC ), vide instruction no. 11/2024 customs has issued instructions on verification of authenticity and genuineness of Certificate of Origin ( CoO ) issued by the UAE authority.
The board has informed that the United Arab Emirates ( UAE ) has introduced an extra layer of security to the Certificate of Origin ( COO ) format. This new security feature takes the form of a password, enhancing the verification process for confirming the genuineness and authenticity of COOs issued by the UAE under the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement ( CEPA ).
For verification of origin, UAE side has informed thc following changes:
“The format of the certificate of origin for both the new and old systems will remain identical, with the only difference being the inclusion of a QR code and a specified password in the new system ‘s Certificate of Origin (COO).”
The CBIC added that it is worth noting that this adjustment, suggested by the UAE, is in harmony with the core provisions of the Operational Certificate Procedures ( OCPs ) established under the India-UAE CEPA.
Therefore, all Customs formations were directed to take note of the new procedure, outlined by UAE, for the verification of CoO and implement the same in conjunction with the Operational Certificate Procedures ( OCPs ), agreed under the India-UAE CEPA.
