GST Dept attaches Bank Accounts of Actor Mahesh Babu

The GST Commissionerate, Hyderabad on Thursday attached two bank accounts of actor Mahesh Babu on account of non-payment of service tax for the year 2007-08.

In a press note issued by the department, the commissioner said the actor didn’t pay service tax “for taxable services provided by him as brand ambassador/appearance money/and advertising for promotion of products etc.”

The total tax due was Rs 18.5 lakh, it said.

The GST department has attached his bank accounts in Axis and ICICI banks for an amount of Rs 73.5 lakh.
