296th ICSI Council Meeting: Key Highlights

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) which is the only recognized professional body in India to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries in India, has made certain important decisions in the 296th ICSI council meeting which was conducted on 4th 5th May, 2023.

The meeting has given approval to the 'Question Paper Modalities' in alignment with the objective of ICSI Syllabus 2022, which will be effective from December, 2023 for the Executive Programme (Syllabus 2022) and from June, 2024 for Professional Programme (Syllabus 2022).

The ICSI National Programme Guidelines 2023 was also approved and a uniform nomenclature for all the Research and Training Centres of the Institute as "Centre for Corporate Governance, Research and Training (CCGRT)" also has been agreed to be approved.

Another important change brought through the meeting was easing the adjudication process, giving approval for setting up of 'Arbitration, Mediation and Conciliation Centers' at various Chapters of the Institute, across the country.

The Annual Secretarial Compliance Report (ASCR) was previously changed by the ICSI to make it easier for Practising Company Secretaries to issue ASCR. A listed business and its significant unlisted Indian subsidiaries are required by Regulation 24A of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015 to annex an ASCR by the PCS in their annual report. The Council Meeting's agenda now includes the new format. The Council has now approved it, during its 296th meeting.

The approval for commencement of empanelment of Social Auditors with ICSI Institute of Social Auditors (ICSI-ISA) is also expected to bring dramatic changes in this field.
