The 52nd Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting, presided by Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman is being held today.

“In the meeting today, I am going to take up this issue and ask the GST council to make sure that these notices are withdrawn”, says Delhi finance minister Atishi, as reported by ANI.

Delhi FM underscored the significance of acknowledging the significant workforce of over 50,000 young individuals actively engaged in this sector, alongside the substantial foreign investments amounting to Rs 17,000 crore that it has attracted. Given these vital factors, she stressed the urgent need to retract the notices to ensure the protection and sustenance of this industry.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to temporarily staying the Karnataka High Court’s ruling that had nullified the Rs. 21,000 crore GST Demand Notice imposed on Gamerskraft, government officials extended their actions to send similar notices to other gaming companies.

The online gaming sector is teetering on the edge of a downturn due to the added weight of recently imposed GST taxes. The Delhi minister intended to press for a revision of this decision during the GST Council meeting, aiming to secure the future of the online gaming industry by advocating for a more favourable taxation framework. This underscores the industry’s concerns and the minister’s commitment to addressing them at a policy level.

The GST Council is expected to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the advancement made in implementing changes to the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) law by various states. Notably, in the preceding month, the GST Council approved modifications to the Central GST and Integrated GST laws.
