The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department recently notified about the launch of the All India Special Drive against fake GST registrations from tomorrow ie 16/05/2023.

Instruction No.01/2023-GST, F.No. CBIC-20/16/05/2023-GST, Central Board Indirect Taxes & Customs, GST Policy Wing,dt: 04-05-2023. It was informed that the Government of India announced a special drive programme across the country to weed out fake registrations under the GST Act, 2017 from 16-5-2023 to 15-7-2023 and GSTN will identify the cases to be verified in all states.

As a part of the exercise, teams headed by AC / Dy.AC of the commercial taxes department will visit the business premises of taxpayers for verification of the genuineness of the registrations as per data received from GSTN. This process is strictly a verification process and not in any way Inspection of the business premises of the dealer.

It was informed that, if the taxpayers come across any issues during this process, the same shall be brought to the notice of the concerned jurisdictional Joint Commissioner to resolve the issue.

As per Rule 18 of GST Laws every Registered Person is required to display his GST Registration. Non-complying for the same might invite a penalty Under section 125 of Rs. 50,000/-. If you have multiple GST Registrations at the same address then the area should be clearly demarcated.

It has been observed that many Registered Persons keep on doing business from places other than their Principal Place of Business but they don’t get these places registered. It was recommended that all such places of business should be registered as “Additional Places of Business”. Those whose Aadhaar is not authenticated should immediately do the same from GST Portal.

Do a Stock taking and reconcile the stock as per books of accounts and physical verification. Make note of differences and reconcile them.
