Anju Rathi Rana, an Indian Legal Services officer, has been appointed by the Center to serve as the Secretary of the Central Ministry of Law and Justice's Department of Legal Affairs. Rana is selected to the position as the first female employee. A government notification dated March 5 states that Rana, who has been Additional Secretary up to this point, would take over as Secretary for a two-year term after taking office.
The notification stated that “ The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, ILS, Additional Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, to the post of Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, initially for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier”.

She was Additional Secretary in the Department of Legal Affairs before to being appointed Union Law Secretary. She has worked on legislative, legal, and constitutional law issues in a number of important government roles.
