Anti-corruption Bureau arrests Female GST Officer accepting Bribe of Rs. 4000

On Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended a woman Goods and Services Tax (GST) officer for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 4000. On September 13, the complainant submitted a request to the Business Tax Officer’s office to terminate the business tax for his company, Kalpdeep Industrial Security Services, which had remained inactive for two years.

According to information from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Snehal Thakur, a 52-year-old GST officer engaged in corrupt activities, resides in close proximity to Ashwin Hotel and Ashwin Sankul Row House in Nashik. In her capacity as a public servant, she allegedly solicited a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant as a quid pro quo for facilitating the cancellation of the mentioned business tax before the Panchayat.

Following a negotiated agreement, the complainant consented to pay an amount of Rs. 4000 rupees. Subsequently, upon reaching out to the Anti-Corruption Department, the complainant formally lodged a complaint against the officer.  In response to his complaint, the Anti-Corruption Department initiated an investigation into the matter.

The Anti-Corruption Department’s devoted team, which included Deputy Superintendent Vishwajit Jadhav, Havaldar Prakash Dongre, Pranay Ingle, Shital Suryavanshi, and other staff members, then planned a sting operation at the Business Tax Office. The officer was caught in the act by the Anti-Corruption Department team during this operation while taking a Rs. 4,000 bribe from the complainant in a filmy way.
