The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has categorically dismissed widespread rumors regarding an imminent increase in property taxes based on new guidance values, clarifying that the existing tax computation system will persist beyond April 1.

In response to viral videos circulating across various social media platforms, which erroneously claimed a forthcoming three to fivefold surge in property taxes for the upcoming financial year, the BBMP issued a firm statement assuring citizens that no such changes are on the horizon. The civic body specifically highlighted an Instagram video posted by Anurag Singh as one of the sources of misinformation.

Emphasizing that the current property tax framework has remained unchanged for the past seven years, the BBMP sought to allay public concerns, urging citizens not to be misled by unfounded claims. Furthermore, it revealed that steps have been taken to address the dissemination of these misleading videos, including a formal request to the Bengaluru city police commissioner to intervene and ensure the withdrawal of such content.

This development underscores the importance of accurate information dissemination, especially in matters pertaining to civic responsibilities such as property taxes. The BBMP’s swift action in debunking these rumors serves as a reminder for citizens to rely on official communications from competent authorities regarding policy changes or updates affecting them directly.
