Another shocking case came to light in Haryana when an auto driver from Bhiwani, Raj Singh, received an income tax notice asking him to pay tax on Rs. 31.67 crore. Raj Singh, who drives an auto to support his wife and son, says he only earns about Rs. 500 to Rs. 600 a day.

The notice was sent to him by the Income Tax Department on March 25. According to the letter, Raj was told to file returns for an income of Rs. 31.67 crore for the financial year 2020-21. This left him confused and scared.

Raj believes that someone may have misused his PAN card and Aadhaar card. He suspects that a fraudster used his documents to open a GST account in his name and carry out fake business activities. Raj has reported the matter to the police and asked them to take strict action against the person responsible.

This is not the first such case in the region. Just a week earlier, a barber from Sirsa also received a tax notice for Rs. 37.87 crore. These incidents raise concerns about the safety of personal documents and the growing problem of identity theft.

Raj says he is just a simple man trying to make ends meet and has no idea how such a huge amount came under his name.
