At 82, Amitabh Bachchan continues to dominate not just Indian cinema but also financial charts, emerging as the highest tax-paying celebrity for the financial year 2024-25. Reports reveal that the legendary actor has paid a staggering ₹120 crore in taxes, a sharp 69% increase from last year’s ₹71 crore while having accrued a total income of ₹350 crore.

The Senior Bachchan’s final advance tax installment of ₹52.50 crore was paid on March 15, 2025, securing his position at the top, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan, who paid ₹92 crore in taxes last year. Other high earners include Thalapathy Vijay with ₹80 crore and Salman Khan with ₹75 crore.

Bachchan’s meteoric rise is reflected in the numbers he makes. His first full-fledged acting role in Saat Hindustani (1969) earned him a humble salary of ₹5,000-an amount negotiated by filmmaker Tinnu Anand. From those modest beginnings, Bachchan has transformed into an unassailable cultural icon, commanding some of the highest fees in the Indian entertainment industry. His financial success stems from blockbuster films, high-value brand endorsements, and his enduring presence as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati.

With earnings of ₹350 crore in FY 2024-25, Amitabh Bachchan falls into India’s highest income tax slab which attracts a 30% base tax on incomes above ₹15 lakh.The earnings shall also be subject to a 25% surcharge on tax payable for incomes exceeding ₹2 crore, along with a 4% health & education cess.

A rough estimate suggests his total tax liability could have been around ₹136.5 crore, but strategic tax planning, investments, and permissible deductions likely brought down the total liability to ₹120 crore.
