The Income Tax Department has issued a formal notice to acclaimed actor and director Prithviraj Sukumaran, in connection with financial details and remuneration from his previous film projects. The move comes more than two years after the department conducted a comprehensive inspection of the offices of Prithviraj, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and filmmaker Listin Stephen on December 15, 2022.

Notably, the notice does not pertain to Mohanlal starrer L2:Empuraan, the upcoming high-profile sequel in the Lucifer franchise, which Prithviraj is directing. Instead, officials have clarified that the inquiry relates solely to remuneration and financial transactions linked to earlier films in which he was involved, either as an actor or director.

According to sources, the issuance of the notice is part of the procedure to conclude pending assessments and verify compliance with income tax regulations. The department has sought detailed explanations regarding the remuneration received by Prithviraj and others during the production and release of several past films.

Meanwhile, enforcement activity continues on a parallel track. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly concluded its recent raids on institutions associated with the Gokulam Group. However, Gokulam Gopalan, the group's chairman, may be summoned for additional questioning in connection with ongoing investigations.

While the timing of the developments has sparked speculation among fans and industry observers, the Income Tax Department has firmly stated that the current scrutiny is not influenced by L2: Empuraan or its production activities.

Instead, officials revealed that the investigation is focused exclusively on financial matters concerning older film projects.
