The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) has registered a case following credible information about alleged corrupt practices involving a senior income tax official and several individuals and entities, including representatives associated with the Shapoorji Pallonji Group.
According to the FIR registered by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (AC-III), the agency is investigating a complex network of alleged bribery and undue advantages extended in the processing of income tax appeals.

The investigation revolves around Shri Jeevan Lal Lavidiya, Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Hyderabad, who has been accused of demanding and receiving illicit benefits in exchange for favorable decisions in pending tax matters.
Among the entities mentioned is Shapoorji Pallonji Infrastructure Gujarat Pvt. Ltd., a Vadodara-based company. The FIR notes that a taxation appeal concerning the company is pending adjudication, and that discussions regarding a payment were allegedly underway involving an official from the company. The agency is probing circumstances around these communications and whether any undue influence was sought or exerted.
It is important to note that the FIR does not allege any wrongdoing by the Shapoorji Pallonji Group as a corporate entity.

The CBI case focuses on the actions of individuals, including tax officials, intermediaries, and private persons, and investigations are ongoing to determine the scope and nature of their involvement.
Officials from the Shapoorji Pallonji Group have not issued a public statement as of the time of reporting. The CBI clarified that the registration of a case does not imply guilt and that all parties will be given due process as the inquiry proceeds.
The CBI has entrusted the investigation to a designated inspector, and further developments are expected.
