The Union Finance Minister, Niramala Sitharaman while giving her budget speech 2022-23 has announced the New provision to allow taxpayers to file an updated Income Tax Return (ITR).
A new provision to allow taxpayers to file an updated Income Tax Return (ITR) within two years of the relevant assessment year.
"To provide an opportunity to correct an error, taxpayers can now file an updated return within 2 years from the relevant assessment year," announced the finance minister in her Budget 2022 speech.
While reading out the speech from her tablet, the Finance Minister said that the government has further simplified the tax system. She announced new updated returns rules. Taxpayers can now file an updated return within 2 years of the filed Income Tax return of an assessment year. Taxpayers can, in this manner, file returns that they might have missed earlier.
