The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has officially announced the results for the January 2025 iteration of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams, revealing 1,10,887 candidates appearing for the CA Foundation exam, while 1,40,294 candidates attempted the CA Intermediate exam across different groups resulting in a 25.41% success rate across both exams.

The CA Foundation exam, which serves as the first step for aspiring Chartered Accountants had a total of 1,10,887 candidates with 58,240 of them being male candidates while female candidates came in at 52,647. The overall pass percentage of the total 1,10,887 Foundation examination candidates stood at 21.52%.

Despite a large number of students attempting the exam, the stringent evaluation process maintained ICAI’s high standards, allowing only a fraction of candidates to clear this stage successfully.

The CA Intermediate exam, which is the second stage of the Chartered Accountancy qualification saw 1,08,187 candidates appearing for Group I, out of which 15,332 passed, resulting in a pass rate of 14.17%. In Group II, 80,368 candidates appeared, with 17,813 managing to qualify, reflecting a 22.16% pass percentage.

Meanwhile, 48,261 candidates attempted both groups together,with 6,781 having passed, marking a pass percentage of 14.05%. Compared to the 2024 exam cycle, the overall pass percentages indicate a tougher evaluation process this year. In 2024, a record 20,446 Chartered Accountants qualified, marking an all-time high. However, the 2025 cycle shows a slight drop in success rates, making it one of the most competitive years in comparison.

Despite the lower pass percentages, the top performers have stood out. Deepanshi from Hyderabad secured All India Rank 1 in the CA Intermediate exam with 521 out of 600 marks, translating to an 86.83% score. Thota Somanadh Seshadri Naidu from Vijayawada secured AIR 2 with 516 marks, amounting to 86.00%, while Sarthak Agrawal from Hathras followed closely with 515 marks, achieving an 85.83% score. Their achievements serve as an inspiration for thousands of CA aspirants.
