The 2024 Chartered Accountancy (CA) exam date has sparked widespread debate, pitting the exam against the right to vote. The clear state of the CA students is CA EXAMS VS RIGHT TO VOTE.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) is getting a lot of criticism for scheduling the CA Intermediate and Final exams in the middle of the Lok Sabha elections. The students have to lose to anyone.

Nobody will talk unless you start. And the same thing is happening here. As to raise voice against this, a CA Final student has filed this grievance before the Ministry of Corporate Affairs subjecting the ‘Matters related to Professional institutes viz., ICAI, ICoAI, ICSI.

The grievance filed by the CA Final student states as follows:

“I (name removed), CA Finalist wish to lodge a complaint against the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for its absence of a grievance redressal system, which Ministry of Corporate Affairs ironically mandates for some listed entities but not for like ICAI.

Despite the May 2024 Exam announcement On April 19, 2024, Students’ attempts to communicate valid election-exam date Clashes remain unanswered, failure to provide Channels for Student has led to frustration and chaos on social media,

Efforts to engage through traditional means like letters and emails have been futile. receiving no response from ICAI officials or Central Council Members (CCMs), including letters addressed to the Hon’ble President of ICAL Shri Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal.

Moreover, certain individuals within the CA community, like CA Anupam Sharma have unsuccessfully raised concerns directly to ICAI officials. CA Lokesh Kasat and CA Santosh Tiwari have contributed to misinformation, while CA Dhiraj Khandelwal and other ICAI have neglected students’ genuine concerns.

ICAI officials must fulfil their implicit duty to engage with students promptly. Absent a formal grievance redressal, students resort to social media, which officials dismiss as an improved medium for communication.

As an Indian citizen and an ICAI student, I urge prompt action on this complaint. documentation will be provided.

My complaint is primarily the absence of a redressal system or any vigil mechanism of KAI and secondarily on exam schedules which will deprive many students from exercising their fundamental right to vote.

I hope the details provided will suffice. Although, please feel free to reach me on email via (mail id removed)  for more issues and details as this portal won’t allow me to write more beyond 2000 characters.”

These words echo the concerns of every CA student, who are first and foremost citizens of India.  With some students facing exam centres located 100 km away, they are compelled to vote amidst their exams. Furthermore, it’s widely acknowledged that the CA exam is among the most challenging, necessitating a conducive environment for students to study and sit for their exams.

ICAI ought to consider rescheduling the exam after the Lok Sabha elections. Alternatively, if no action is taken, the relevant ministry should intervene to uphold the voting rights of the students.
