CA Topper Netflix Series’ Controversy: ICAI files Suit before Delhi High Court  

The ICAI ( Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ) has filed suit before the Delhi High Court against Netflix series ‘Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper’. The series is scheduled for release on 18th July 2024.

The CA institute has filed a lawsuit for a permanent injunction in the Delhi High Court to restrain Netflix from broadcasting a web series that allegedly defames the profession. ICAI's advocates have requested an urgent hearing, as the web series is set to be released on July 18th. The court will hear the matter tomorrow. 

Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming series “Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper,” directed by the creator of “Mirzapur.” Set to release on July 18, 2024, the trailer stirred controversy among Chartered Accountants. According to the professionals, the title should be changed and it is defaming the profession.

Chartered Accountants strongly recommend ICAI to take immediate action against the series. They believe it degrades a noble profession that requires immense hard work and dedication to succeed. Thus, the institute filed the suit before the High Court.

A few days ago, CA (Dr.) Rohit Ruwatia Agarwal, Chairman of CMP, ICAI, shared information about sending a legal notice through his official 'X' account. According to his post, the ICAI was set to send a legal notice today to Netflix, the producer, and the director regarding a series that aims to degrade the profession's image. He has now posted an update stating that the ICAI has filed a lawsuit against the OTT platform in the High Court.
