In an unusual event, an Income Tax ( IT ) raid on the property of former BJP MLA Harvansh Singh Rathore in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district uncovered both massive financial irregularities and a surprise wildlife issue. A raid was conducted as part of an investigation into alleged tax evasion, revealed unaccounted cash, valuable assets, and even crocodiles on the premises.

The IT officials launched the raid to investigate financial misconduct involving Rathore and his business partner, Rajesh Kesarwani, who is involved in the bidi (traditional Indian cigarette) manufacturing business. The officials discovered tax evasion worth a whopping Rs. 155 crore, Rs. 3 crore in cash and a large amount of gold and silver jewelry.

Documents pointing to large-scale tax evasion were also seized. It is reported that Rathore alone is responsible for evading Rs. 140 crore in taxes and his partner Kesarwani is being investigated for his role in the financial fraud.

During the raid, while the department was focused on uncovering hidden wealth, officials were surprised to discover crocodiles in a pond on Rathore’s property instead of just cash. The Income Tax team immediately informed the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department.

The state’s Head of Forest Force, Aseem Shrivastava, confirmed that the crocodiles were rescued and a case has been registered under the Wildlife Protection Act. The exact number of crocodiles has not been disclosed, but officials are currently assessing their health and investigating the legality of their presence on the property.
