CBDT Asks Officials to redress the Tax Payers Grievance in a Speedy Manner

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has directed the Income Tax Department to take prompt actions and redress the taxpayer’s grievances which are pending for a long time. The department needs to solve the problems of taxpayers especially those related to refunds and PAN, within 30 days of their receipt.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes is a statutory authority functioning under the Central Board of Revenue Act, charged with the administration of taxes. The board, which manages the functioning of income tax department has requested them to address the problems related to filing of tax returns and similar issues.
CBDT chairman Sushil Chandra has written a letter to all chief commissioners of the department to acknowledge them his intention of solving high pending problems of the taxpayer.
"Therefore, I would like you to ensure that all the officers and agencies under your jurisdiction are properly briefed so as to reduce the avenues of grievances," Chandra wrote in the letter.
Chandra reportedly said that "Redressing public grievances is one of the primary focus areas of the government and it is being monitored at the highest level,"
The letter clearly mentioned that from the beginning of this year over 20,000 taxpayers grievances were allowed.
