The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) has arrested an inspector presently serving as a Preventive Officer ( PO ) at the Central Goods and Services Tax ( CGST ) office in Jaipur, along with two middlemen. The arrest stems from allegations of the trio accepting a substantial bribe amounting to Rs. 10 lakh.

The CBI’s intervention follows the registration of a case based on a complaint that accused  and others at the CGST in Jaipur of soliciting a bribe to expedite the resolution of a pending matter.

The CBI sources revealed that a comprehensive investigation uncovered the intricate details of the bribery scheme orchestrated by the GST officer, who purportedly sought a considerable bribe from the complainant.

Acting on this information, the CBI strategically laid a trap that resulted in the apprehension of the middlemen as they accepted the Rs 10 lakh bribe on behalf of Inspector Aswal. All those arrested, including the GST Officer, are slated to appear before the special CBI court in Jodhpur.

The nature of the incident prompting the bribe request is reported to be linked to a matter in Jodhpur. The ongoing investigation is meticulously conducted under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, emphasising the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat corruption within the tax administration.

As the case unfolds, the accused individuals are expected to be transported to Jodhpur for further inquiry, underscoring the dedication to upholding the principles of transparency and integrity in public service.
