The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Inspector posted in Ghaziabad for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh from a complainant.
According to officials, the CBI registered a case on May 7, 2025, following allegations that the Inspector had demanded an illegal gratification of ₹11 lakh from the complainant.
The demand was reportedly linked to an alleged mismatch in the Input Tax Credit (ITC) claimed in the GST return filed by the complainant’s firm. The accused had allegedly threatened to initiate adverse action against the firm if the bribe was not paid.

Following negotiations, the accused Inspector purportedly agreed to settle the matter for ₹2 lakh. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap to catch the official red-handed. The bribe money was reportedly handed over inside the Inspector’s car.
However, upon being confronted by the CBI team, the accused attempted to flee the scene. In the process, he rammed his vehicle into the CBI’s official car and several private vehicles, causing considerable damage.
After a chase spanning nearly two kilometers, the accused was apprehended and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession.
Searches are currently underway at the official and residential premises of the Inspector. Further investigation is ongoing.
