The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) has made arrests in an alleged bribery case involving an Income Tax Officer and a Stenographer from the Income Tax Office in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh. The arrests were made after the accused officials purportedly accepted a bribe amounting to Rs. 10,000 from a complainant.

The investigation was initiated by the CBI following a complaint alleging that the Income Tax Officer and Stenographer demanded an undue advantage of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant. They allegedly threatened to initiate false reports and impose fines against the complainant’s customer service portal if the bribe was not paid. However, during negotiations, the accused reduced the bribe amount to Rs. 20,000.

In response to the complaint, the CBI conducted a sting operation and apprehended the Stenographer red-handed while accepting the undue advantage of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant, reportedly at the behest of the Income Tax Officer. Subsequently, both individuals were arrested.

Furthermore, searches are currently underway at the premises of the accused individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
