The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested three Superintendents of GST & Central Excise, Bhubaneswar, and a private person(Accounts Officer of a private Educational Trust/Institute) in an alleged bribery case of Rs.10 Lakh.

 A case was registered against a Superintendent, GST & Central Excise, Bhubaneswar; a Senior Manager(Accounts) of a private Institute of Technology, Jatni, Khurda(Odisha); a private Institute of Technology, Jatni, Khurda(Odisha) and unknown officials on the allegations that the said Superintendent had issued a notice to a private Institute of Technology, Ramachandrapur, Jatni, Odisha (an Educational Trust imparting higher education i.e. Management courses, B.Tech, Ph.D etc.) for submission of certain documents for FY 2017-2018 and subsequently, in the 3rd week of December, 2020, he visited the said institute/trust along with his team for inspection/audit.  It was further alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs.10 lakh from the concerned official of said Institute to settle the GST issues at a very less amount of tax and not to raise violation matters.

 CBI laid a trap and caught the said Superintendent along with his other two  Superintendents and an Accounts Officer (Senior Manager, Accounts) of said private Institute while exchanging the alleged bribe of Rs.10 lakh between them. Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused at Jatni(Khurdha) & Bhubaneswar which led to the recovery of incriminating documents.

The arrested accused will be produced today before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhubaneswar.
