CBI files Chargesheet against Former Income Tax Principal Commissioner and four others in Rs 10 Lakh Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) filed a chargesheet on October 25, 2024, against five accused, including the then Principal Commissioner of Income Tax ( PCIT ) for Patna, Bihar, and four private individuals.

This action stems from allegations of bribery amounting to Rs 10 lakh. The CBI registered the case on August 26, 2024, based on information revealing the commission of a cognizable offense. It was alleged that the accused demanded and accepted illegal gratification from various assessees under his jurisdiction, providing undue benefits in exchange for the bribes.

Additionally, several conduits reportedly acted on behalf of the then Principal Commissioner. During an operation on August 26, 2024, CBI agents intercepted the then PCIT and a private individual while they were involved in the transaction of the Rs 10 lakh bribe at the Income Tax office located in Ayakar Bhavan, Patna.

Following the trap, three additional individuals were also arrested, revealing a broader network involved in the bribery scheme.
