The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet U/s 120-B of IPC and Section 7 & 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Mohali (Punjab) against an Income Tax Officer, Sirhind (Punjab); an Inspector, Income Tax Office, Sirhind (Punjab) and a private person (retired Income Tax Inspector) in a bribery case.
A case was registered on 08.01.2018 against the private person (retired Income Tax Inspector) on a complaint alleging that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 70,000/- on behalf of Income Tax Officer for not imposing penalty regarding a settlement of complainant’s Income Tax matter.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the Income Tax Officer, Income Tax Inspector, and the private person had conspired and obtained bribe of Rs. 70,000/- from the complainant.
After the investigation, a charge sheet has been filed.
The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
