The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of GST posted in Medak, Telangana, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 8,000 from a complainant.
According to an official CBI release, a case was registered on March 21, 2025, against the accused officer after allegations surfaced that he had demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000. The bribe was allegedly sought in exchange for revoking the suspension of the complainant’s GSTIN, which had been suspended due to non-filing of tax returns related to the complainant’s proprietorship firm.

Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed while accepting Rs. 8,000 from the complainant. The incident took place at the office of the Superintendent, GST, under the Medchal Commissionerate in Medak district.
After the arrest, the accused was produced before the competent court on March 22, 2025. The CBI also conducted searches at the official and residential premises of the accused in Medak, Hyderabad, and his native place in Jehanabad, Bihar. The raids led to the recovery of several incriminating documents.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
Recently in December, a CGST Inspector from the Tirupati GST Commissionerate was arrested along with a representative of a private firm for accepting a Rs. 3.2 lakh bribe. The bribe was allegedly demanded to settle issues discovered during inspections and In September 2024, the CBI arrested six officials from the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department in connection with a Rs. 50 lakh bribery case. The officials had allegedly demanded the bribe to favor a businessman in an ongoing tax-evasion probe.
