The Central Government has designated the authorised officers for the food imports at 155 entry points after being reviewed by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI ). The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ), vide instruction no. 07/2024-Customs dated 1st April 2024.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI ) has conducted a comprehensive review of designated points of entry for food imports, considering factors such as import trends, volume, testing facilities, and logistics infrastructure.
Consequently, authorised officers comprising FSSAI officials and Customs officials have been notified effective from 01.04.2024, at 155 specified Points of Entry for food import, as outlined in Annexure-I of the FSSAI notification dated 07.03.2024.
It is imperative that all concerned authorities take necessary action to inform officers within their respective jurisdictions regarding this matter. Accordingly, Customs Instruction No. 20/2023-Customs dated 05.07.2023, is modified accordingly.
If any challenges arise, the board has encouraged bringing them to the attention of the for further review and resolution. This directive is aimed at strengthening the regulation and supervision of food imports, ensuring adherence to established standards and protocols.
