The Department of Revenue has imposed a dumping duty against Gypsum Tiles as goods being dumped into India, from the People’s Republic of China and Oman as per investigation s conducted by competen authority.
The accusation of dumping, exporting these goods at a lower price than in their home country, has raised concerns about its impact on the domestic industry in India. The Department of Revenue, acknowledging the potential harm caused by these activities, has resorted to this measure in order to alleviate the adverse effects on the domestic industry. These goods fall under the tariff items in the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act.
The powers under the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, along with the Customs Tariff (Identification, Assessment and Collection of Anti-dumping Duty on Dumped Articles and for Determination of Injury) Rules, 1995 empowers the Ministry of Revenue to deal with the issue of dumping.
The imposition of this anti-dumping duty, as outlined in the notification, is slated to be effective for a period of five years. This move reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the domestic industry and maintaining fair trade practices. The rates of the anti-dumping duty can be referred to in the table provided in the attached notification, providing clarity on the financial implications for the concerned parties. Importers of the subject goods are required to comply with the anti-dumping duty regulations. The duty shall be payable in Indian currency.
