CBIC notifies Biometric Aadhar Authentication for GST Registration in Andhra Pradesh [Read Notification]

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the implementation of biometric Aadhaar authentication for Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration in Andhra Pradesh, as per Notification No. 54/2023-Central Tax dated November 17, 2023.

The GST council has already announced the implementation of biometric Aadhar Authentication for GST Registration in Gujarat and Puducherry. And now, the same has been extended to Andhra Pradesh.

The notification states as follows “ In pursuance of the powers conferred by sub-rule (4B) of rule 8 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules: 2017: the Central Government, on the recommendations of the Council: hereby makes the following further amendments in the notification of the Government of India: the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No- 27/2022-CentraI Tax: dated the 26th December 2022 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3: Sub-section (i), vide number G.S.R 903(E): dated the 26ü December: 2022, namely:-

In the said notification: for the words, 'State of Gujarat and the State of Puducherry", the words 'States of Andhra Pradesh: Gujarat and Puducherry" shall be substituted.”

The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Thursday (16th November 2023) that the green light has been given for the implementation of biometric-based Aadhaar authentication at GST Seva Kendras in Andhra Pradesh. The minister was giving a speech during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the GST Bhavan at the Tirupati CGST Commissionerate. The notification was subsequent to this announcement.
