The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs ( CBIC ) has recently notified the extension of the mandatory requirement to carry a health certificate with the import of food consignments, in reference to an order of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
In reference to the Board’s Instruction No 18/2022-Customs dated Instruction No 30/2022-Customs dated 14.1 1.2022 and Instruction No 32/2022-Customs dated 28.11.2022 relating to the requirement of Health Certificate to be accompanied with the import of certain food consignments, based on a reference from FSSAI order dated 03.08.2022 and its subsequent clarification dated 26.09.2022 the following instruction was released by the CBIC.
The board, in light of the FSSAI order that extended the date of implementation of the health certificate mandate for a further period of two months, said that the same will now be effective from 1st March, 2023.
The order for extension by FSSAI issued on 10th January read as follows:
‘Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued an order dated 3rd August, 2022 und its subsequent clarification vide order dated 26th September, 2022 regarding the requirement of Health Certificate for import of Milk & Milk products, Fish & Fish products and Pork & Pork Products. Further, FSSAI vide order dated 27th October, 2022 issued order extending the requirement till ISt January, 2023. Since many trade partners are in process of adopting it, the date of implementation of said requirement shall be extended by two months and the order will now be effective from ISt March, 2023.“
As per the order, the date of implementation of the requirement of the Health certificate for import of Milk & Milk products Fish & Fish products and Pork and Pork products has been extended by two months and will be effective from 1st March 2023.
