CBIC updates new places in Nepal for Transhipment of Cargo - Amends Transhipment of Cargo to Nepal under Electronic Cargo Tracking System Regulations - TAXSCAN

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) vide notification No. 51/2023-Customs (N.T.) issued on 11th July 2023. The government has updated the new places in Nepal for the transshipment of cargo.

The government in its authority granted by section 157 in conjunction with sub-section (1) of section 54 and section 143AA of the Customs Act, 1962 to introduce the following amendments to the Transhipment of Cargo to Nepal under Electronic Cargo Tracking System Regulations, 2019.

According to the notification, in the Transhipment of Cargo to Nepal under Electronic Cargo Tracking System Regulations, 2019, for regulation 3, the following regulation shall be substituted, namely: –

‘‘3. Application. – These regulations shall apply to the transhipment of cargo from the ports of Kolkata, Haldia and Vishakhapatnam in India to –

(a) Birgunj in Nepal by rail;

(b) Batnaha in India by rail and from Batnaha to Biratnagar in Nepal by road; and

(c) Biratnagar in Nepal by rail.”

The notification specifies the routes and modes of transportation involved in the transfer of cargo from Indian ports to Birgunj in Nepal via rail, from Batnaha in India to Biratnagar in Nepal via rail, and from Biratnagar in Nepal back to Batnaha via road and then again to Biratnagar via rail.
