Central Govt exempts E-Governance Society, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of Himachal Pradesh from Income Tax u/s 10(46) [Read Notification]

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) vide notification no. S.O. 3864(E) issued on 1st September 2023 has exempted the E-Governance Society, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of Himachal Pradesh  from Income Tax under Section 10(46) of Income Tax Act, 1961.

By virtue of Section 10(46) of Income Tax Act, the income of the E-Governance Society, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of Himachal Pradesh is exempted from income tax is as follows:

1. Grant received from central government;
2. Grants received from state government;
3. Interest received on investment and grants;
4. Tender/ application fees;
5. Sale of scrap/waste paper; and
6. Recovery for POS machine issued

This notification will be in effect, contingent upon the conditions that apply to the E-Governance Society, Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Himachal Pradesh. The conditions are as follows:

1. shall not engage in any commercial activity;
2. activities and the nature of the specified income shall remain unchanged throughout the financial years; and
3. shall file return of income in accordance with the provision of clause (g) of sub-section (4C) of section 139 of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
