The Customs, Excise, and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) has notified the extension in tenure of Justice Dilip Gupta as President till September 30, 2022.
“Pursuant to the Ministry of Finance. Department of Revenue Office Order No. A.12026/3/2018-Ad.IC(CESTAT) dated 6.6.2021, the tenure of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dilip Gupta. President. CESTAT earlier notified by the Ministry of Finance Office Order of even no. dated 28.9.2018 has been modified,” the CESTAT in the notification said.
The modification reads, for a period of 04 years from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till he attains the age of 70 years, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
Therefore, it is notified that the tenure of Justice Dilip Gupta, President, CESTAT is extended till September 30, 2022 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
On September 27, 2018, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal for appointment of Justice Dilip Gupta, former Judge of the Allahabad High Court to the post of President, Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal. Earlier, the appointment was in the scale of pay of Rs. 250000/- (fixed) for a period of 03 years from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till he attains the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
As an advocate, Justice Gupta practised in Civil, Constitutional, Educational and Land Acquisition matters. He also worked as Standing Counsel for Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority, Mathura Vrindavan Development Authority, Aligarh Development Authority, The Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Virbhadra and Official Liquidator, High Court, Allahabad.
