CGST Officials arrested by CBI for alleged Bribery of Rs.1.5 Lakh for Settling GST Show Cause Notice

Following a complaint filed by a partner of a transport firm, the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) arrested an Assistant Commissioner and an Inspector of CGST & CX, Div-1, Belapur, Navi Mumbai, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh for settling Show Cause Notice under Goods Service Tax ( GST )

The complaint alleged that the Assistant Commissioner issued a Show Cause Notice to the complainant, who subsequently submitted all required documents. However, it was further alleged that the Assistant Commissioner demanded a bribe of Rs. 6,00,000 from the complainant in exchange for settling the SCN.

Following negotiations, the accused public servant reportedly agreed to accept a reduced bribe amount of Rs. 1,50,000. The complainant was instructed to provide the bribe amount through an Inspector from CGST.

In response to these serious allegations, the CBI sprang into action and laid a trap, leading to the arrest of the Inspector, CGST, while accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh from the complainant on behalf of the accused Assistant Commissioner. Both individuals have been taken into custody by the CBI.

Furthermore, searches are currently being conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused public servants as part of the ongoing investigation. The arrested accused will be produced before the Competent Court as the investigation progresses.
