A Chartered Accountant was kidnapped by his driver and the accomplices. The kidnappers extorted Rs. 60 lakhs. The accountant hailed from Kandivali, filed a police complaint in the at Samtanagar police station.
As per the complainant, on the evening of May 8, the CA left for home, accompanied by a friend, with his driver. Around 9 pm, the driver stopped the car on a road near Western Express Highway as per the victim’s instructions and his friend exited the vehicle.
As per the filed FIR, the assailants, seizing the opportunity at a red traffic signal, barged into the vehicle, brandishing a menacing knife against the victims. Under duress, the perpetrators demanded a sum of Rs 5 crore, threatening the CA. Due to the threat, the CA agreed for settlement of Rs. 60 lakhs.
The CA’s wife, acting upon his instructions, handed over the ransom to the driver. Subsequently, the driver directed the CA to a secluded location. It was only after two to three days that the CA mustered the courage to approach the police station and file a formal complaint.
Acting swiftly, under the guidance of Assistant Inspector Santosh Gangapurkar, the police apprehended Driver Pawar, along with his accomplices Kiran Bhosale and Mangesh Karande. The police managed to recover a significant portion of the extorted cash, amounting to approximately Rs. 57 lakh, from the accused.
All the perpetrators are under police custody until May 16.
