In a recent meeting held by the Chief Commissioner of Central Tax, Central Excise, and Customs, Thiruvananthapuram Zone, alongside the Special Commissioner, SGST, on March 21, 2024, they had a discussion revolving around optimising audit functions. It was decided for a joint audit by Central Goods and Services Tax ( CGST ) and State Goods and Services Tax ( SGST ) officers.
The circular stated that “it was decided that the CGST and SGST Audit Teams would henceforth try to coordinate and participate in each other’s Audits.”
The Chief Commissioner has issued directives for closer coordination between the two entities. Now, each Audit Circle of CGST is mandated to share its monthly Audit Plan with their SGST counterparts.
Additionally, officers from SGST are encouraged to participate in CGST Audit Teams, reciprocated by CGST officers joining SGST Audit Teams when feasible. This personnel exchange aims to strengthen the audit capabilities of SGST officers while facilitating the exchange of crucial compliance-related information between departments.
Along With these directives, the Commissioner has instructed the Circle AC/DCs to coordinate with State GST officials to establish a framework for initiating joint audit work promptly. This joint audit under the Chief commissioner of Thirvananthapurm will come into effect immediately once the framework is ready.
