The Revenue Minister of Karnataka said that the State Government has collected Rs 15,145 crore in additional tax from stamps and registration in the current fiscal year. Compared to last year, the government has decided to increase the revenue by 20%. It was reported that the achievement was after bringing transparency to the stamps and registration by introducing systems such as e-khata.

e-Khata helps to streamline property records and tax management. It is an updated and digital version of the traditional property account system maintained by municipal authorities such as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike ( BBMP ).

This system stores ownership details and property-related taxes in a centralized and digital manner. Property owners can access their e-Khata information and make property tax payments online. As this helps reduce disagreement and fraud, ensuring transparency in property deals, the revenue won’t evaded.

As per the report on The New Indian Express, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that the ministry struggled in the beginning stage of introducing e-Khata.  The government is able to dispose of only 300 applications of the 15,000 received in the initial stage. Now BBMP has issued over 54,000 e-Khatas so far.
